Your journey, day by day

Day 1: Cusco – Maras – Moray
At 9:00am we will pick up our passengers from their hotel in Cusco and we will go to the town of Maras to meet our Rider and the Horses. There will be a brief talk before we mount our horses and begin our journey. First, we will pass the Maras salt mines, which are on the slopes of Mount Qaqawiñay, where thousands of small carved stone pools fill with a flow of salt water diverted from the interior of Qaqawiñay as they have done since the time of the Incas. This artisanal salt extraction process creates a visually striking site of varied tones and textures, due to sunlight bouncing off different levels of salt. The site is jointly managed by the town of Maras. During our trip along the valley's dirt road, we will enjoy stunning landscapes surrounded by the snow-capped peaks of the Andes Mountains. Passing through small towns and fields of crops that serve as subsistence for the native inhabitants. From there we will go to the Moray Archaeological Complex (3200 meters above sea level), this was an agricultural laboratory in which experiments were carried out with seeds and the development of crops. Each concentric circular terrace replicates a different microclimate. We will return to the city of Cusco around 3:00 p.m.
