About this experience
This condensed version of the Lares trek takes you through authentic Andean communities—Huaca Wasi, Yanahuara—with meetings at rural schools and textile demonstrations. Cross lagoons, waterfalls and queuña forests before descending to the Sacred Valley.
You board the train to Aguas Calientes and the next day you visit Machu Picchu at dawn. Includes pack horses, camping and full food.

Your journey, day by day

Day 1: Cusco – Lares – Huaca Wasi
We pick you up from your hotel at 6 in the morning, we will pass through the towns of Calca and then we can visit the archaeological complex Humanmarca a small pre-Inca citadel where we can observe spectacular views (terrace, temple and Inca streets), then we continue to the Lares valley where you will have your first breakfast accompanied by incredible views of the Andes mountain ranges. Then, you can enjoy the thermal baths, which are made up of several pools that range from cold to boiling, they are composed of purely volcanic water, it is considered good for bones, stress, muscles and headaches. Afterwards we will have lunch and we will also find our muleteers and horses to carry our backpacks.
Next, we will begin a 3-hour walk in which the guide will explain to us about textiles, livestock, agriculture, cultivation of many varieties of organic potatoes and medicinal plants, on this walk we can see many alpacas, vicuñas and the most impressive of the “Andean house decorations”. Afterwards we arrive at the camp Huaca Wasi (3770 m.a.s.l.), the guide will accompany us to the town and visit some local homes, where you will learn about the lifestyle and ancient traditions of the local people

Day 2: Huaca Wasi – Huaca Punku – Mantanay – Yanahuara
You will wake up at approximately 6 in the morning, with our coca tea services. After our breakfast we will continue walking for 3 hours to Huacarpunku where we can see a (composite) waterfall, the views are impressive. You will see lakes, waterfalls, llamas and alpacas. We will have an emergency horse to ride in case he is tired. Then we will begin our descent to the lunch point where we will pass through two lagoons (first lagoon called Auro Q’ochawhere we can see birds from the area and the second lagoon Yurac Q’ocha (3600 m.a.s.l.) where you can enjoy lunch. Maybe there will be llamas grazing nearby, after lunch you will descend through a Q’euñas forest until you reach to YANAHUARA (3400 m.a.s.l.) there our tents or tents await us.

Day 3: Yanahuara – Yanahuara Viewpoint – Ollantaytambo
We will wake up approximately 7 in the morning, after breakfast we continue walking downhill, along this trail, we will be able to see the preparation of the chicha, taste if you want the delicious Inca chicha and you will pass by fruit trees and you will begin to feel the changes of the micro-climate and you will begin to see the crops that are different from those in the high mountains. Around the Sacred Valley people farm corn, quinoa, peaches, avocados and other types of fruits. We continue with the ascent to the Yanahuara viewpoint where we can see the impressive sacred valley, then we will descend to have our lunch with our mountain chef and say goodbye because we will board the bus where we will be taken to Ollantaytambo to take the 12:58 pm train to Aguas Calientes for two hours to the town of Aguas Calientes.

Day 4: Machu Picchu – Ollantaytambo – Cusco
The most magical day because we will finally visit Machu Picchu, we wake up very early to take the first buses at 5:30 in the morning, where our guide will explain for two hours in the Inca citadel, then you will have time to explore on your own and take photographs. In the afternoon, we will take a two-hour train back to Ollantaytambo, followed by the bus back to Cusco at your hotel.

- 2-day acclimatization in Cusco recommended; maximum altitude 4,400 m.
- Emergency horse is available, but be prepared to walk 6–7 h/day.
